Music
Some not so mainstream artists who are well worth a listen.
Calvin plays in a band called Bluesbarn. They have a website here. Go there, download their MP3s, have a listen
and then offer them lots of well paying gigs. You can also check out his previous band, 2-Sheds
Jackson, here. There also pictures and
MP3s of another of his bands The Bogus Asylum Seekers in our photo
gallery here.
Eddi Reader is a superb vocalist who was the lead singer of Fairground
Attraction and at one point a backing singer for the Eurythmics. She now sings as a solo
artist with several albums. Her live appearances are not to be missed. Adrian Dover runs a
very good Eddi Reader web site and mailing list that you can access by clicking here. Her official site is here. It doesn't have as much information, but does
have a nice flowery motif!
Boo Hewerdine - Cambridge's most talented singer songwriter. Beg,
steal, borrow (or preferably buy) a copy of his album 'Thanksgiving' you will not regret
it. He has a website here.
If you fancy interesting hybrids of Scottish music and dance music, then you will want
to visit the web sites for the Peatbog Faeries (link hijacked by porn
site Ill replace it if and when it is sorted) or Shooglenifty here.
Heather Nova is a Bermuda born singer songwriter with a fabulous voice
and some excellent material. This is a good site
to find out more about her. Her official site is here.
The Men They Couldn't Hang have written some of the catchiest tunes
ever penned. Good musicianship and folk rock you can pogo to. Recently reformed after a
few years apart and with a 'greatest hits' album out, check our more about this band by
clicking here.
Eric Bogle is a Scot who lives in Australia. He writes a mixture of
songs that will either tear at you heart or make you laugh out loud. Although he lives so
far away, he still manages to play in the UK, the US and elsewhere around the world every
couple of years. You guessed it, you can find out a lot more about him here.
Other bands/people you may want to check out (no links):
Afro Celt Sound System - A truly global blend of trancey music
incorporating synths loops, fiddles, talking drums and some stunning guest vocalists.
Bass Guitar players should click here.
